Top Tips To Ease Stress And Anxiety

By , November 9, 2017

Suffering from stress and anxiety is much more common than you think. Many people suffer from stress and anxiety as a result of work, relationships or just everyday life. When you get anxious and stressed it seems impossible to calm yourself down but with our top tips you will be feeling calmer in no time.

1.Food

What you eat has a huge effect on how we feel mentally and physically. It is important to make time for breakfast in the morning as this will set you up for the day. There is nothing worse than coming in to a pile of work on an empty stomach, this will definitely start your day off on the wrong foot and you will find you get stressed much easier. Sugar also has a huge effect on us. Sugary foods, caffeine and alcohol all increase anxiety so it’s best to stay clear of these or at least have in moderation.

2. Exercise

Brisk walks or a quick run can really help clear your mind. If you are sitting at your desk all day, cooped up inside there is nothing better than getting some fresh air. When we get anxious and stressed our minds go into overdrive and seem to overthink everything. This is why it is important to take some time for yourself each day, be it 10mins, 15mins, whatever time you have to spare, get up, get out and get moving, you will really notice the difference in your mood.

3. Sleep

Getting enough sleep is crucial when it comes to minimising stress and anxiety. We should get around 8 hours of shut eye a night if we can, I know if I don’t get my full 8 hours I feel like a zombie the next day. If you’ve had a stressful day and are finding it hard to unwind why not have a nice soak in the bath with some scented candles or read a book or a magazine if you’re not the bookworm type to help get yourself ready for bed.

4. Mind Over Matter

Many of us get stressed about things that haven’t even happened yet. We make up scenarios in our head and question what if this happens, what if that happens which drives us into anxiety overload. You just have to live in the present and understand you cannot control everything. Try to maintain a positive attitude, even when you feel stressed tell yourself you’re not and you’ll be surprised the positive effect this has on your mood.
