Smart New Years Resolutions mean Long Term Success
By Therese, January 6, 2017
Once January comes around all you hear is new year new me. People go overboard on the New Year’s Resolutions and start pushing themselves to the extreme. It is great to have new year’s resolutions but it is also important not to push yourself over the edge and be miserable.
New Year’s resolutions aren’t meant to be impossible drastic changes, rather small manageable changes that you won’t quit by the time February comes. Instead of taking one giant step why not take baby steps that you know you can achieve. Remember baby steps still mean you’re moving.
One of the main New Year’s resolutions people make is to lose weight. You don’t have to cut out all your favorite foods and live on lettuce for the rest of the year to do this. Making small changes can have a huge effect on your success to achieving this goal.
Exercise is a big part of losing weight, but it doesn’t have to be a grueling experience. Maybe take up a sport or a fun class you can do with your friends to make exercising more enjoyable. Why not try swimming? It is a great exercise for losing weight as you are using your whole body, plus its fun.
Another little tip, if you take the bus home from work why not get off a few stops earlier and walk the rest of the way home. It may not feel like you’re doing much but all those little steps add up.
Another thing you can do to lose weight without actually doing anything is sleep. Lack of sleep can cause you to feel less satisfied after meals and drive you to sugar for quick pick me ups during the day. As I mentioned exercise is a key part of losing weight but with less sleep you feel less energised and definitely the last thing you want to do is work out.
When it comes to food we all like to treat ourselves, but if we do this everyday can we really call it a treat? When we eat unhealthily every day it doesn’t make us feel any better, it makes us feel worse and sometimes guilty.
When you have sweet cravings try opt for something other than a chocolate bar. If you feel you can’t fight that chocolate craving opt for dark chocolate, the higher the percentage the better.
If you’re craving an ice cream why not try frozen yogurt. The great thing about frozen yogurt is you can get it in a variety of flavors, even chocolate and feel guilt free. Why not add fruit or granola to mix it up. Remember don’t deprive yourself of the things you love, it’s OK to treat yourself but not to overindulge.
