Detox Drink: Lemon, Watermelon, Cucumber & Mint Water
By Orla, January 11, 2015
It’s that time of year again – we promise ourselves we’re going to be healthy, we say we’re going to go walking every day, we’re never going to eat chocolate again, we’re going to do x, y and z. Realistically, it’s easier said than done.
If you follow through and stick to your goals, then major props to you. But if you’re finding it tougher than you anticipated, maybe this detox water recipe can help you along the way. It’s said to encourage weight loss by way of detoxing.
What You’ll Need:
- Lemons and/or limes
- Watermelon
- Cucumber
- Fresh Mint Leaves
How It’s Done:
It’s very simple really. Chop up an equal quantity of lemons and limes to watermelon and cucumber and add a small handful of fresh mint leaves. Add whatever amount of water you want, depending on how strong you want to flavour the water.
Why Lemons and Limes?
Lemons and limes not only contain lots of antioxidants, they also aid digestion and boost your immune system. Fresh lemon juice helps to cleanse and alkalize the body by eliminating toxins.
Why Watermelon and Cucumber?
Both watermelon and cucumber contain the compound, citrulline, which is an amino acid that is known to help the liver and kidneys eliminate ammonia from our bodies. Watermelon and cucumber will also hydrate your body along with the water.
Why Mint?
Mint adds a mild sweetness to take the zing out of the lemons and limes, but it also helps to aid digestion which in turn will encourage weight loss. It’s also a natural soother for an unsettled stomach.
You can probably see the trend here; fresh ingredients that aid digestion, boost your immune system and rehydrate the body. Feel free to swap similar ingredients in and out and bon apetit!
