4 Tips for Shiny, Glossy Hair
By Orla, November 27, 2015
There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing that healthy sheen on your hair. The smoother your hair is (aka, the more even the cuticles on your hair are), the more light reflective and shiny it is.
We’ve got four really inexpensive ways to get that gloss back.
1. Always rinse with cold water
After you wash your hair, finish it off with a rinse of cold water for five seconds. Cold water evens out the cuticle layer on our hair, when it’s smooth (like in really straight hair), the hair appears shinier.
Rinsing hair with cold water is also said to slow down oil production and lock in colour for highlighted and coloured hair.
2. Coconut oil is a miracle worker
Coconut oil works for just about everything doesn’t it? However, the most organic and unrefined version of coconut oil tends to work the best when it comes to making your hair healthier. Instead of spending lots of money of hair masks, deeply condition hair with coconut oil every fortnight. The healthier and more hydrated the hair is, the shinier it is!
Avoid applying the oil to your roots though as this will lead to greasy hair.
3. Apply egg yolks for half an hour
Raw egg yolks can work wonders for dull hair. Massage 2 raw egg yolks into wet hair and leave it to sit for 30 minutes before rinsing your hair with warm water. You won’t believe how shiny it makes your hair after a few weekly treatments!
4. Use apple cider vinegar instead of conditioner
The acidity in apple cider vinegar balances the pH of your scalp and makes your hair light-reflective, aka, shiny!
Just mix up equal amounts of apple cider vinegar and water, then massage it into your scalp and hair after shampooing. Leave it to sit for 5 or 10 minutes and then rinse it out with warm water.
