Five of the Best Natural Deodorants

By , May 17, 2011

We all know the reasons to use natural deodorants – they’re safer, they’re free from chemicals and they don’t stain your clothes to name just a few. Spas.ie has tried and tested the best natural deodorants on the market for the run up to our no doubt scorching summer so you’ll be well prepared to keep your cool.

Dr. Hauschka
Dr. Hauschka roll-on deodorants come in Floral or Fresh scents and claim to absorb odour without clogging pores or irritating sensitive skins. The subtle scents are the result of a blend of essential oils, with the Fresh version being popular with men as it’s not too girly. This is generally hailed as one of the best natural deodorants on the market at around €14 from health stores.

Neal’s Yard
Neal’s Yard Remedies offer two natural deodorants. Containing essential oils such as tea tree and antibacterial extract of alpine moss to prevent odour, they are free from aluminium salts and parabens. The deodorant comes in liquid spray-on form which can run a little on application but works well overall. The scent choices are Lavender & Aloe Vera or Lemon & Coriander and both are available to buy from www.nealsyardremedies.com for £7.50.

NUXE
NUXE Tonific deodorant comes as a roll-on and promises to reduce excess perspiration without completely blocking sweat ducts. Ingredients are natural, soothing, odour-neutralising, and most importantly do not include aluminium salts. The scent is lightly citrus-y and very fresh, but without the synthetic feel of many other deodorant fragrances on the market. Available from Space NK in Harvey Nichols and selected pharmacies for €10.

Weleda
Weleda natural spray deodorants contain a blend of essential oils to neutralise odours without the use of aluminium salts. The Wild Rose in particular has a gorgeous floral scent with the added benefit of wild rose leaf’s mildly astringent properties. Sage and Citrus scents are also available and all three options are suitable for vegans. Weleda deodorants cost €10.95 from health food shops nationwide.

Green People
Green People natural deodorant has the added benefit of being suitable for sufferers of eczema and psoriasis. Without using aluminium, alcohol or parabens, this product neutralises odours without preventing the process of perspiration. Suitable for both vegetarians and vegans, Green People roll-on deodorants come in Aloe Vera or Rosemary scents. €10.53 from Nelson’s Homeopathic Dispensary in Dublin.
