Irish Mums Would Choose Relaxation at the Spa Over Dinner with Their Partner

By , March 4, 2026

What do Irish women want? A day of relaxation it seems! Spas.ie conducted a nationwide survey which revealed that 70% of Irish women would choose a day of ‘me-time’ at a spa over a romantic dinner with their partner.

The survey, which polled 1,000 Irish women, clearly indicates a strong preference for self-care and relaxation, or perhaps a much-needed break from work and home stress.

“It’s not surprising to see these results”, said Roisin Murphy, Spa Manager at The Spa at Aghadoe Heights. “We notice many mothers arriving, stressed and rushed, often coming straight from a hectic school run,” but “post-treatment are completely relaxed and grounded.”

For many mothers “it’s not just about the treatment — it’s about feeling cared for, even for a few hours” says Dara Mollooly, Spa Manager, Johnstown Estate Hotel & Spa.  “a spa day has become the one space where they can truly switch off”.

Where better to experience down-time than in the sanctuary of a spa? The power of treatments such as massage, facials or wellness rituals are consistently scientifically documented as healing, mood and wellbeing boosters.

Juan Cullen, Director of Spas.ie, notes that over 90% of their Spa Gift Vouchers are purchased for women. “Messages such as ‘relax on me,’ ‘for all that you do,‘ or ‘enjoy baby-free-time’ clearly indicate that Irish mums are in need of a well-deserved spa break,” says Cullen.
