{"id":5343,"date":"2014-01-06T18:30:22","date_gmt":"2014-01-06T18:30:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spas.ie\/blog\/?p=5343"},"modified":"2014-01-06T18:30:22","modified_gmt":"2014-01-06T18:30:22","slug":"8-ways-stick-new-years-resolution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spas.ie\/blog\/8-ways-stick-new-years-resolution","title":{"rendered":"8 Ways To Stick To Your New Year\u2019s Resolution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Every year we promise ourselves that this year will be different, that we will stick to that diet or go on those walks. But each year, we start out really well and after a few weeks our resolve and determination dwindles away, until we can\u2019t even remember what our resolution was.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">But this year CAN be different if you follow these 8 simple steps below:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>1. \u00a0\u00a0 Realising that New Year\u2019s Day is the same as any other day<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">While the whole point of a new year\u2019s resolution is \u201cnew year, new me\u201d or a fresh start, placing too much emphasis on the fact that you are going to change just because it\u2019s a brand new day and a brand new year is unrealistic.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Try to stop thinking of the fact that it\u2019s the new year that is making you change, and start thinking of it as the catalyst for change, because you really want to change.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>2. \u00a0\u00a0 Stick to 1 or 2 realistic resolutions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Don\u2019t bombard yourself with a list of unrealistic resolutions, pinpoint 1 or 2 that you can really see yourself achieving and focus on them.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Instead of picking the same old resolutions that you have failed on in previous years, choose an area in your life that needs an improvement rather than a complete radical change. For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maybe you don\u2019t spend enough time with your parents or don\u2019t ring your family &amp; friends often enough. Improving a relationship over the year might be more rewarding and realistic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>3. \u00a0\u00a0 Write it down and pin it up<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once you have firmly decided on your resolution, write it or them down.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Instead of having it as a nagging thought in the back of your mind, write it down and write how you plan to achieve it on a piece of paper and hang it up somewhere you can see every day.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This will make it seem more real and permanent.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>4. \u00a0\u00a0 Big or small, it\u2019s just as important<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Some people make the excuse that they don\u2019t have anything major they need to change, but just because your resolution isn\u2019t life-changing or drastic doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s less important.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Even the smallest of resolutions, such as taking up flossing or remembering to cleanse your face properly every day can have long-lasting rewards.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>5. \u00a0\u00a0 Focus on 1 change at a time<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Instead of trying to improve yourself and certain aspects of your life all at once, try to focus on one change at a time. This way you can give one resolution all your focus and determination, making it easier on yourself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>6. \u00a0\u00a0 Think positively, even when you don\u2019t want to<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Instead of saying \u201cI really cannot be bothered going for a run\u201d, instead think \u201cI always feel so much better after \u00a0going for a run and I\u2019m so happy I didn\u2019t give up\u201d.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">It actually is true, you do always feel better if you follow through, and focusing on how it benefits you can really help keep you motivated.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>7. \u00a0\u00a0 Tell your friends and family, support is key! \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Telling your friends and family about your resolution makes it more real, rather than just keeping it to yourself. They can provide you with support, praise and keep you focused on your goal, and why you want to achieve it when you feel like giving up.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>8. \u00a0\u00a0 Reward yourself &amp; celebrate your success<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Remember it doesn\u2019t always have to be hardship and struggle, you can take time off to celebrate your success and treat yourself. Of course, don\u2019t choose something that goes against your resolution &#8211; like a glass of wine if you\u2019re cutting down on drink.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Instead, treat yourself to a new pair of shoes or a pampering massage.
